Your camera or microphone is not working
Permission, the wrong device selected, or something else holding it.
- Who can use it
- All staff
Three causes, in the order they actually happen.
1. The browser is not allowed
The commonest by far. The browser asks once, remembers a no, and never asks again.
Fix it from the icon at the left of the address bar. For a client, send them Allow your camera and microphone.
2. The wrong device is selected
Select the arrow beside Mic or Camera and pick from Select microphone or Select camera.
Plugging headphones in or out mid call can lose the microphone. You see Reconnecting microphone…, and if it does not come back, Couldn't reconnect your microphone. Try re-selecting it in Settings.
The app may also tell you directly: We detected your microphone or speaker may have been disconnected. Please check your settings to reselect your device. Open settings takes you straight there.
3. Something else has it
Another video call, a recording app, or a browser tab left open on a meeting. Only one application can hold a camera at a time. Close the others and reload the page.
Checking a client without asking them
Open Status from the dot menu on their row. It shows whether their camera and microphone are reachable before you start. See Check a client’s status before you call.
